Intro

Through a spontaneous outing, I completed one of my preliminary tasks and continued collaborating and improving my skills. I created reels for a school named Maranatha and a group of boys called Golden Harmony.

Context of the school.

Maranatha is a 7th-day Adventist school located in Cluj-Napoca. Established in 1992, it was the first 7th-day Adventist school in Romania. The school offers theological and scientific studies and includes a kindergarten, elementary school, and high school. They are passionate about serving and learning about God within the school community.

Fun fact: my father attended this high school, and my mother worked there as a pedagogue and secretary. Over the past few years, I have always had a connection with a generation there.

How did I start creating reel videos for Maranatha?

The creation of reels began spontaneously when I joined them on an outing, and they asked if I could film some clips of the program for their social media. I took the task seriously and captured lots of content. I had always wanted to create reels or assist with their Instagram account, so at the end of the program, I offered to either send the content as it was or make a reel. She chose the reel, so I showed my talent, hoping to create more reels for them in the future. I filmed everything perfectly from the start, intending to create a reel, but also ensuring they had content for Instagram if needed.

The second reel I made for them was easier and less awkward since I was familiar with the location and knew the best angles to capture. Filming at my church was more comfortable, allowing me to move freely and get the necessary shots. However, I was still a bit anxious about blocking anyone's view.

Their previous posts!

They have many posts about their events and have produced professional videos on specific topics and promotional content to attract students. However, they have few reels like the ones I created. Their reels, being a Christian school, are very sentimental and touching, featuring emotive music and the shots made to capture emotions and feelings.

Planning the shots

I intended to capture the shots to align with the school's profile. I ensured that I captured every significant detail, emotional moment, and feeling, while also selecting heartfelt music to bring the reel together.

Inspiration

I've always been inspired by reels featuring church programs and concerts, as I follow many accounts with similar content. I've always thought it would be great to create one myself, as I have ideas for shots, etc.

Golden Harmony’s collaboration.

Golden Harmony is a recently formed group of four boys from Maranatha with a passion for music. They are very talented and have started an Instagram account to show their talent and receive invitations to sing at churches or concerts.

How did I start creating reel videos for them?

During my first outing with Maranatha, where I created their first initial reel, a friend hinted to one of the boys about me managing their Instagram and assisting with reels and posts. We left it at that, but on a train ride home from a birthday party, they mentioned a concert near Cluj. I offered to help with a reel. I began filming their prepared songs, although I wasn't sure if I'd create a reel, as I was hesitant to move around and film from various angles without a direct request. The interest was implied but not explicitly stated.

Their previous post!

They have only shared small segments of songs from outings and never had a reel made. It was challenging to draw inspiration or understand their style, especially since they are boys with specific expectations and preferences. I struggled to understand their preferences as not mentioned, and unsure if they preferred more upbeat yet Christian songs or how to structure the reel. I'll share more about the creation process in my next blog post.

Inspiration

Social media offers plenty of inspiration, especially for singing groups and concerts. However, I really want to better understand the style the boys have/want and create something that reflects their identity.
